Here is a great specimen of Calcite from this Ohio locale.
There are two very different generations of calcite present.
The first on the matrix are colorless micro calcite crystals.
The main focal point is the large second generation growth,
of honey-colored calcite scalenohedra crystals.
The "flower" looks to be made up of twinned crystals and measures 4.3 cm across.
The honey colored calcite is very transparent and the crystals all have high luster faces.
All the calcite have a white fluorescence under longwave UV lighting.
A very aesthetic specimen!
