Here is a large piece of "dolostone" dolomite limestone matrix. Exposed in the matrix are two small druzzy quartz and first phase dolomite lined pockets. In each are A+ - AA, double terminated herkimer quartz crystals. The rating "A+" and "AA" means extremely clean and gemmy crystals.
This specimen weighs in at 1.8 pounds and measures approx. 5 inches long x 3.5 inches tall x 3 inches thick.
In the main pocket is a single water clear crystals that measures approx. 1.5 cm thick. I cannot measure the length since part of the crystal is still hidden. The other very small pocket on this piece has a tiny cluster of clear crystals that only measure approx. 6 mm.
All of the visible crystals are still attached to the walls of the pocket. These are as found crystals in matrix.
A+ - AA Herkimer crystals in matrix are very rare specimens, since crystals of this quality and size are always removed.
